What is IBS?
IBS is irritable bowel syndrome. This can affect a lot of people, irrespective of their ages and gender. Typically, this will affect women more than men. What’s more, menopausal women are more likely to suffer from IBS.
IBS is a condition that directly affects the digestive system. As such, it can produce pain, bloating and swelling of the abdomen. But, it can also leave people prone to gas, constipation and diarrhoea. For many, this can be an uncomfortable and embarrassing condition. But, if left untreated it can be incredibly painful too.
Natural Sugars and IBS
Experts within academic intuitions have said that IBS can be relieved with a restricted diet. But, more natural sugars can be an excellent way to make sure that sufferers of IBS are not bogged down with bloating, gas and pain. However, the diet that has been proposed is entirely restrictive. Rye, pasta, apples, watermelon and honey are allowed and very little else. The benefits can result in weight loss, but for those that enjoy eating meat, this kind of diet does not allow for that. Around 60% of the sample group actively reduced their IBS symptoms by following this type of dietary advice.

Many people suffer from IBS. The causes of which are widely unknown to date. There is mounting evidence that greasy foods, stress and fizzy drinks can make the problems worse. These are, in essence, IBS triggers. Of course, everyone knows that there is no substitute for a good diet. But is the proposed diet too restrictive?

What Other Ways Can IBS Be Relieved?
On the current market, there is a wide range of foods that are suited to different dietary needs. Cutting out wheat can ensure that you are actively reducing the symptoms. But, fast home remedies for constipation and bloating can easily be sought and have far greater effects.
While the research about the ‘new’ diet is still in its infancy, many people are keen to dismiss it. It seems that having an entirely restrictive diet means that you are cutting out some of the major food groups. This can cause further problems, even if it does reduce IBS symptoms.
Of course, speaking to your family GP can be an excellent way to relieve the symptoms. After all, they may have put you on medication that worsens the problem. Exercise, smaller meals and cutting out fried foods are the easiest diet changes that you can make. What’s more, this not overly restrictive either.
So, if you want to tackle IBS, it may be worth looking at your lifestyle and food choices. You don’t have to give up everything that you love!
